Region 2 Area Agency on Aging is excited to announce our First Annual Safe Haven Benefit that will be held during World Elder Abuse Prevention week! The event will be held at The Pointe on Clark Lake to raise awareness and funds for the Safe Haven project. Safe Haven’s mission is to protect vulnerable adults from abuse, exploitation, and neglect. We work with Adult Protective Services from the Department of Health and Human Services in Hillsdale, Lenawee, and Jackson Counties to offer safe, temporary housing, care coordination and other needs to ensure the safety of at risk adults in our community.
Tony’s Story: Recently our Safe Haven project assisted an older adult who was being taken advantage of financially by his live-in care giver. “Tony’s” living situation was unsafe and he was moved to a temporary safe house and provided food and other necessities the same day we were asked to get involved. We are working with Tony, Adult Protective Services, and other community partners to ensure that he gets to a place where he wants to live, feels safe, and has the supports he needs to be independent and in control of his life. Before Safe Haven, this type of transition typically took much longer- exposing the vulnerable person to even more potential abuse. Tony is unique, but unfortunately his story is far too common in our community.
Please join us to support this important mission.
